The Soul in Ealing debt counselling centre opened in May 2006 as a partnership between Christians Against Poverty and Soul in Ealing. Soul in Ealing is a group of churches and Christian agencies working together to deliver socially transforming projects in Ealing, and St Paul's Church is a member of this.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Ealing is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to people in our community. Our vision is to relieve poverty and bring justice to those in need through top quality debt counselling, in such a way that people experience and respond to the love of Jesus.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Proverbs 31: 8,9

We offer a practical solution to people in debt, preparing a budget that prioritises spending for food and essential bills, and negotiating with creditors to stop interest and charges.

But more than just debt counselling, CAP is about building God’s kingdom, by offering prayer and friendship and telling clients about God’s love for them.

All the debt counselling itself is done by the centre manager, but there are many other ways in which you can be involved in this ministry:

  • If you’d like to be kept up with what’s going on with CAP Ealing, sign up for our monthly newsletter by emailing .
  • Be part of our prayer team, which meets monthly and prays for God’s blessing and intervention in the lives of individual clients.
  • Find out about becoming a support worker. Support workers have a key role in caring for the whole person. They accompany the centre manager on the first or second visit to the client, and stay in touch to befriend the client, showing unconditional love and compassion, support, encouragement and practical help. When clients are showing an interest in the gospel, support workers invite them to services and events, and ensure that they are welcomed into the church.
  • Help with planning and organising client events, which are aimed at getting clients together in a relaxed social setting, with a short evangelistic talk to share the gospel with them.
  • Help with the planning and organising of an annual fundraising event.
